Golds - These are the queens of Pern. They are the biggest of the dragons reaching any where from 38-42 feet in length. They mate almost exclusively with the bronzes, but it's not impossible for a brown to fly a gold. They are the egg layers and as such the most important dragons in the weyr. Their clutches can be anywhere from 10-30+ eggs.
Bronzes: - These are the kings of Pern. They are smaller only to the golds, reach from 35-38 feet in length. Bronzes fly golds and as such their riders are chosen as the Weyrleaders. A bronze will fly after greens if so inclined. Bronzes can tend to be a bit more on the arrogant side, but they are excellent leaders.
Browns - These are the stable back bones of the weyr. A brown can reach from 30-35 feet. A brown is normally nothing if not reliable. Because of this their riders are generally wingleaders and weyrlingmasters. Browns will fly after golds, but their lack of stamina usually inhibits them from catching one.
Blues - These are the fast and sensitive dragons of the weyr. They are the smallest males, reaching 25-30 feet in length. Blues tend to be the best at searching out likely lads and lasses for impression. Blues will only fly after greens. A bluerider can make wingsecond, but they normally take the wingthird position.
Greens - These lithe and agile darlings make up the biggest portion of the weyr. Greens are the smallest of the dragons, reaching 20-25 feet in length. Though they don't have near the stamina that the others do, without them Pern surely would have been destroyed by thread long ago. They are the only other female dragon, but they cannot clutch due to their chewing of firestone which renders them sterile.
