The Story

It's be nearly 600 turns since the 9th Pass came and went. That pass was suppose to be the last. Records show that somehow our ancestors actually managed to knock the Red Star off course so Thread would no longer plague our planet. Pern has not had it easy though. Tempers flare between the Northern and Southern Continents and a plague killed most of our precious dragons. Now, the Red Star is becoming more prominent in the dawning sky. I can only hope it doesn't mean anything, but only the future knows.

You have been called by a very old Rider. His hair is gray, and his dragon is pale. Bronze once. He is off in a distant mountain, away from the Weyrs. He sits in his cave, near his dragon, watching as you arrive. Suddenly his voice rings out.

“Come My Children, I have a story to tell you. Listen, learn, and beware.” He shifts, waits for all to settle, and then with a voice that would rival the great harpers, started his tale.

“Time splits and changes, mutable, always slipping into a different path. And it keeps flowing, on and on. This story is about a changed path.

“Time has gone so far that Lessa and Rammoth are lost in myth, two bright lights, warriors, nothing more. Nothing to dream about. A plague struck, the workfolk were targeted, and the strong fell. The queen’s clutched less, leaving each weyr emptier every Hatching. Keeping up with the pace wasn’t to be had. The weyrs decided that only one was needed, and the rest were left in disuse.

“In the great Lessa’s own time, she and F’lar were able to defend Pern from Thread. They called to the past, and they were helped. If it wasn’t for the firelizards, the flamethrower, ground crews and the Watch-Wher, all would have been lost.

“Dragons multiplied, and it seemed that the dragon’s would grow to their old numbers before the ninth pass. But that was not to be so. A sickness struck the dragons. Swiftly killing one by one. Only a few escaped and even less Gold’s survived.”

The old man took a breath, and reached for some water, taking a deep drink.

“But there was hope. Eggs were being layed, and instead of the five colors, there were more. Many more. Mutations, powerful, deadly, smarter, swifter. Mutated dragons became the hope of Pern.

“Holds were abandoned, with it becoming too dangerous for them to live with out the Weyrs, and only one weyr stood to stand between Thread and ultimate death: Tallemarah. The eldest weyr, the first, the one that was not abandoned was the only weyr left.

“The sickness ebbed, and a new weyr was created. Smaller yes, but still something. Kalasia Gold Weyr was strong, powerful. Then another weyr was created. This time in the north. Northern Aurora Weyr, where the sun lights the sky for six long months, half a turn.”

The man took another breather, and this time a young girl came out to give water, and food to the gathered riders, holders, and other assorted groups. She was light on her feet, and a flitter helped her every step of the way. A beautiful scarlet, dropping food here or there.

Once everything settled back down, the bronze rider spoke again.

“Then last, the Seacrest Islands Weyr. Beautiful, set on islands. But what the founders didn’t realize was that it was dangerous, and it did not stand. But out of the ashes, as a Phoenix is reborn, the Erathan Seacrest Islands Weyr was created, a young gold rider, taking up the reigns. She was in deep need of Riders, weyrlings, and eggs. “

A murmur ran through the room. They knew of the last weyr. ESIW was know to all. That, alone kept them quiet as the man continued.

“That is what you must remember of your heritage. The Weyr wasn’t started alone, the greatness wasn’t see-able, but it was there. Now the question is. What is your story?”

What ESIW Has to Offer:

  • This is a brand new site, with staff positions open to those who can prove they are the right person for the job.
  • We’re flexible, and we give credit to Anne McCaffery, though nothing here can be associated with her. Any plot can be created, just speak with the Staff.
  • Friendly staff who will look out for the members well-being to the best of their ability.
  • From Beginner to Expert we ask one and all to join us in the quest for greatness.

Some facts about this Weyr:

  • This Weyr is Non-canon and is very open to the ideas of its members.
  • Open King Dragon transfers, a Queen Wher open, and perhaps a Queen flitter. Positions open for applicants.
  • This Weyr started out as a double Weyr between NAW and ESIW and took a total of two years to create only to be recreated into the version that you see before you now, which took almost another year to recreate.
  • It really isn't 100% necessary you know our history. What has been written above is basic, but gives you an idea.
